All downloadable maps except postcode maps are subject to the licensing terms set out below.
1. The Licence
Maproom grants its Licensees a perpetual, worldwide right to reproduce — in whole or in part, and whether in their initial state of supply or edited, modified or augmented in any way — Maproom’s map bases an unlimited number of times for the permitted uses described below without incurring additional fees or royalties.
2. Permitted Uses
– websites (as illustrative content only; see clause 3a below)
– apps
– e-books
– video or TV graphics and set dressing
– printed books
– magazines
– newspapers and editorial publications
– trade journals
– educational materials
– research reports
– commercial marketing and promotional material
– consumer merchandise
– printed posters, calendars and greetings cards
(No limit on print run applies to any printed format)
3. Prohibited Uses
a) Licensees are not permitted to make any Maproom map, whether in its initial state of supply or modified or augmented in any way, available for resale or free download on websites. Usage on websites must be purely in the context of illustrative content specific to the Licensee’s project.
b) Licensees are strictly prohibited from utilising Maproom’s mapping products in any product or service that competes with or undermines Maproom’s own mapping products and services.
4. Definition of Licensee
a) By default, the Licensee is the purchaser of the map.
b) The rights granted are personal to the Licensee and non-transferable, whether the Licensee is an individual or acting on behalf of a company or client. Licensees may not sell, sublicense or give away free any Maproom digital map base, whether in its initial state of supply or edited, modified or augmented in any way, to another party.
c) Licensees who are acting on behalf of a company or client must take all reasonable steps to prevent third parties from duplicating or distributing Maproom map bases whether they are in their initial state of supply or edited, modified or augmented in any way.
d) For the avoidance of doubt, Licensees who are freelance graphic designers may use the map for multiple projects and clients, but cannot transfer rights to their clients. Whereas if the client of a freelance graphic designer purchases the map, the designer’s client is the Licensee. In the latter scenario, the licensed client can hire the graphic designer to work on the map, but the graphic designer cannot use the map for any other clients without purchasing a licence in their own name, or the names of other clients.
e) A purchaser may request to change the name of the Licensee by applying to maproom@thamesidemedia.com. (E.g. if a designer has purchased the map in their name but wants to pass the licence on to their client.)
5. Copyright and Credit
a) Aside from the royalty-free licensing terms laid out above, all other rights to the map bases, including, without limitation, copyright, are retained by Maproom.
b) Some Maproom maps contain Ordnance Survey open data and include a copyright notice such as: Contains OS data © Crown copyright and database right [year]. These copyright notices may be restyled or moved, but not removed, hidden or cropped out of the final published version of the map. More information is available from Ordnance Survey OpenData.
c) Other Maproom maps do not require a copyright notice on final output but may kindly be credited as follows: Base map © maproom.net
d) Licensees must ensure that all parties handling the artwork are aware of these copyright terms.
Permission must be sought from Maproom for any usage not outlined in the terms laid out above. Queries can be directed to maproom@blueisland.uk
