Many of our maps use open data from a variety of sources and include a copyright / credit notice for that data, typically at the bottom right of the map.
E.g.
- Source: Office for National Statistics licensed under OGL v.3.0
- Contains Royal Mail & National Statistics data © Royal Mail & Crown copyright & database rights 2023
- Contains OpenStreetMap data
You must retain any copyright / credit notice for public display even if you edit, crop or augment the map. However, you may restyle and move the notice elsewhere on the map or even off the map, so long as it is still publicly visible and legible in the map’s final context.
If you are moving the notice off the map it should appear in an appropriate and obvious location. For example, in the acknowledgements section of a book or the end credits of a film.
You may add your own copyright and credits to the notice if you modify the map.
You are not obliged to credit Maproom, but we are happy if you do!
Do you need a completely copyright / credit-free map base?
Some of our simple maps do not use any third party data and thus do not contain a copyright / credit notice.
If your project requires a completely copyright / credit-free map that is not available in the Maproom shop, please enquire about our bespoke mapping services.
