Understanding the map layers

The layer options are an important feature of Maproom maps. They are designed to give you easy and highly versatile options on what to show.

Try experimenting with turning layers on and off to see how showing and hiding different layers and sublayers can instantly change the state of the map.

See our video – how to use the map layers in Illustrator →

Example 1

The panel here shows the top-level layers of a sample map, with seven turned on and five turned off. In this state, the United Kingdom is a different colour from the Republic of Ireland and the Isle of Man, and the boundaries for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are visible, with each country labelled.

Example 2

With a few simple changes to the layers and sublayers, you can select any individual area to be highlighted. Here we have turned on the England fill layer and changed its colour to pink and made the other countries grey.

In a matter of seconds the map looks completely different to the first example!
