Annual passholders are eligible for having public dynamic maps which can potentially be embedded on an external website.
You should be able to have an interactive dynamic map on your own website if your website’s hosting environment allows iframe embeds. Here’s how to test:
1 – Create a test page on your website
2 – Switch to code / HTML editing
WordPress – switch to the ‘Text’ tab in the Classic Editor, or insert an HTML block if you’re using the Gutenberg Blocks Editor
Shopify – switch to Code View
Squarespace – insert an Embed or Code block
Weebly – insert an Embed Code block
Wix – select Embed Code > Embed HTML
Other content management systems will either have some kind of variant for adding code, or maybe a plugin for adding iframes.
3 – Copy and paste this test embed code into your editor
<iframe style="border: 1px solid #ccc;" src="https://maproom.net/my_locations/28764/" name="Maproom test embed" width="100%" height="600px" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>
Save your test page and view it on the front end.
You should have our demo map of Nuclear Power Stations showing on your web page, something like this:
No map showing?
Hosting providers sometimes limit the possibility of iframe embedding for security reasons. Send us the URL of your test page, and we will check if there’s a block or other problem.
If an iframe embed is not possible on your website, you can put in a basic link to your public map and/or possibly wrap a static preview image of your dynamic map in a link.
We charge an hourly rate if you need technical support with dynamic map embeds.
Web traffic and Mapbox tokens on public maps
The number of views that your dynamic maps receive when embedded on your website are metered. There is a very generous allowance of up to 50,000 views per month included at no extra charge, and this level of traffic covers the majority of websites. However, if your website has high traffic, and the pages on which your dynamic maps are embedded receive more than 50,000 hits per month, an extra fee of $5 per 1,000 map views applies. This fee is payable directly to Mapbox (the base system we use for most dynamic mapping work), not Maproom, and we do not take any cut or commission. There is more information about Mapbox on our blog post, Mapbox and Google Maps fees for high web traffic.
In order to meter your embedded map traffic accurately, you need your own Mapbox token which we can help you obtain as part of the setup for making your dynamic maps public and embeddable on your own website.
Thus to have a public embedded dynamic map on your website you need to budget for an Annual Pass for the Dynamic Mapping Suite, plus setup costs plus possibility of high traffic costs if your metered map views exceed 50,000 per month.
